Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about using GoalCodex
Getting started
What is GoalCodex?
GoalCodex is a football statistics platform focused on goals and matches. You can search and filter historical data across competitions, teams, and players — whether you want to know how many penalties a striker scored in a specific season, which team conceded the most own goals, or every match result for a given club in a given year.
Do I need an account to use GoalCodex?
No account is required to browse the site. Without an account you can access the last 12 months of data. Creating a free account gives you the same data range with a persistent login across visits. Paid plans (Fan and Pro) unlock the full historical archive, advanced filters, and additional features.
Who is GoalCodex for?
- Fans who want to look up a player's goal record or a club's season history
- Journalists & commentators who need quick, accurate numbers on deadline

Data & coverage
How far back does the data go?
GoalCodex currently covers matches and goals from 2011 onwards. The database is continuously expanding. Pre-2011 data is planned for future releases.
Which leagues and competitions are covered?
GoalCodex covers hundreds of competitions across more than 140 countries — from top European leagues to lower divisions, continental cups, international friendlies, and youth competitions. You can browse all available organisations from the Organisations page.
How often is the data updated?
The database is updated daily. Whether it's a midweek fixture or a weekend full of games, new results, scorers, and goal events are reflected in GoalCodex the following day.
Does GoalCodex include assists?
Yes, where the data is available. Assist information is shown on goal records and can be filtered or browsed through the assists leaderboard. Coverage varies by competition and season.
Are own goals and penalties tracked separately?
Yes. You can filter any goal view to show only penalty goals or only own goals. These are tracked at the individual goal level so you can isolate them in any search or export.
Searching & browsing
How do I search for a player or team?
Use the search bar at the top of the homepage or in the navigation. Start typing a player or team name and matching results appear instantly. Select the result you want to go directly to their goal or match record.
You can also browse all players from Players, all teams from Teams, or all organisations from Organisations.
How do I filter goals by season, competition, or type?
On any player or team goal page, a filter panel lets you narrow results by:
- Season or date range
- Organisation (league or cup)
- Country
- Home / away
- Penalty or own goal
- Assist player or opponent team
- Stadium
Advanced filters are available to Fan and Pro subscribers.
What is the "Explore by" section on the homepage?
It gives you three quick entry points into the database: Players (individual scorer records), Teams (club goal records), and Organisations / seasons (leagues, cups, and seasons). Click any option to start browsing from that angle.
What does "Explore Statistics" do?
The Explore Statistics button opens a quick-start wizard that asks what you want to explore (goals or matches) and then lets you pick a dimension (player, team, organisation, or country). It's a guided shortcut to the most common search paths.
Can I open the explorer wizard from any page?
Yes. The orange grid button () in the top-right corner of every page opens the same wizard. Use it whenever you want to jump to a different area of the site — goals or matches, by player, team, organisation, or country — without going back to the homepage first.
How do I see all goals in a specific match?
From any team's match list, click on a match row to expand the goal details for that game — including scorers, assist players, and minute of each goal.
Tools
What is Head-to-Head (H2H)?
The H2H tool lets you select two teams and see their complete head-to-head record — all past meetings, results, goals scored, and goal scorers in those encounters. You can filter H2H results by competition or season.
What does the Compare feature do?
The Compare tool lets you put two players or two teams side by side and compare their goal statistics across the same time period or competition. It's useful for settling debates or scouting decisions.
What are Records?
The Records section surfaces the all-time or season leaders across key categories — most goals, most penalties, most own goals, top assists, highest-scoring matches, and more. You can filter records by country, competition, or season.
What is the AI assistant?
Pro subscribers have access to an AI-powered assistant (the chat icon) that understands plain-language questions about football statistics. You can ask things like "how many goals did Real Madrid score away in the 2022-23 Champions League?" and get a direct answer without building filters manually.
